Three Ways to Meet a Dolphin Up Close
Along with our wild dolphin boat tours, Oahu offers up-close dolphin encounters at Sea Life Park, a marine park on the windward coast. These are guided, in-park programs with dolphins in managed care, which is different from viewing wild dolphins from a boat. There are three main options, and the right one depends on how close you want to get. Here is how they compare.
Dolphin Swim Adventure
This is the most immersive option. You wade into deeper water and take part in an interactive session, often including a chance to be pulled or pushed through the water by the dolphins. It is the biggest thrill of the three and the best pick for confident guests who want a hands-on, in-the-water experience. There is usually a minimum age or height, so it suits older kids and adults.
Dolphin Encounter (Non-Swim)
If you want to meet a dolphin without swimming, the non-swim encounter is perfect. You stand in shallow water at the edge of the lagoon and interact with a dolphin up close, with plenty of guidance from the trainers. It is gentler and more relaxed, which makes it great for younger children, nervous swimmers, and families who want to share the moment together.
Dolphin Aloha: Touch and Feed
The most laid-back option keeps you mostly dry. From a shallow ledge or dock area, you get to touch and feed a dolphin and learn about them from the staff. It is short, sweet, and budget-friendly, and it works well for little ones and anyone who just wants a brief, gentle hello.
